AAC presents special awards at 2017 Ventura County Science Fair

AAC is grateful for the opportunity to participate as Special Awards judges for the third year at the Ventura County Science Fair. It is our mission and goal to encourage young scientists to pursue chemistry and environmental sciences, and we are thankful to be part of this important event in our community.

AAC chemist David attended the Science Fair on Friday to judge 70 high school level projects submitted in the categories of Chemistry and Environmental Science. He reviewed several posters and evaluated them based on (1) topic relevance, (2) depth of research, and (3) execution of the experiment. He met with the students who had the most noteworthy posters and conducted oral interviews to further determine their level of knowledge and critical thinking on their chosen topic. David chose the three most exceptional projects which would receive an award certificate and monetary prize. The first winning prize received $100, the second winning prize received $75, and the third winning prize received $50.

AAC chemist Zandra attended the Science Fair Awards Ceremony Monday evening to present the accomplished winners with their prizes and congratulate them on their superb scientific achievements.

"The Science Fair brings together students, teachers, and scientists from around the county to: Develop in students an awareness of the importance of science in their lives and to cultivate students’ interest in science; Support students’ acquisition of scientific knowledge and research skills; Extend and reinforce the Science Content Standards for California Public Schools; Recognize and reward outstanding achievement in science; and Motivate students to undertake and complete scientific inquiries in their special areas of interest."

Congratulations to our winners!
