Source Testing

AAC has been providing sampling equipment, media and analytical services for Source Testing measurements for over 30 years using a variety of EPA, ASTM, CARB, SCAQMD, NCASI and other agency approved methods.

We have worked closely over the years with both source testers and regulatory agencies such as the SCAQMD and as a result have gained extensive knowledge of most source testing methods and their field applicability.

YOUR SOURCE TESTING NEEDS

We can help you with your source testing needs from project planning to final data validation including; selecting the proper methods to use; selecting the correct sampling media for the application; calculating the amount of sample to be collected; calculating the required flow rates and sampling time; providing method reporting limits; providing the necessary sampling equipment and instructions; providing the sampling media along with all documentation (Chain of Custody, Sampling Procedures, Sampling Log sheets, etc) and additional supplies such as containers, vials or bottles; providing custom spiking solutions for field testing and audit purposes; providing analysis following agency or custom methods; and providing you with the final data package including QA/QC reports and when requested Electronic Data Deliverables (EDD).

For non-compliance projects such as engineering, pre-test, or scoping we can determine which parts of the method should be followed and work with you to determine analytes other than those specifically mentioned in the official methods.

OUR CLIENTS

Our clients use our analytical services to provide support for permitting (construction, operation, audits, etc), risk assessment and destruction/removal efficiencies, process monitoring, demonstraton of alternative technologies, and various other source testing issues.

Our source testing clients include small to large source testing companies with projects including municipal solid waste incineration, boilers, engines and stacks from all types of effluent sources.

Please see our Analytical Capabilities document for more details of what source testing services we offer.

EXPERTISE

We are experts in the sampling and analysis of Formaldehyde and other carbonyl compounds using EPA methods 0011, 316 and 323, CARB 430 and several NCASI methods. We provide certified DNPH Solutions for CARB 430 and EPA 0011 analysis and BHA solutions for NCASI 105.01 analysis on a regular basis.

We developed a source testing method (AAC modified CARB 430) specifically for Acrolein measurements, which results in the complete recovery of Acrolein emitted from source tests unlike other DNPH methods.

We are certified by the SCAQMD for source test methods 25.1 and 25.3 for Total Non-Methane Organic Carbon (TNMOC) as well as 307-91 for SO2 and Total Reduced Sulfur compounds.

We have designed, built, tested and validated our custom SCAQMD 25.1 and 25.3 sampling trains, trap burning system, and Total Combustion Analyzer (TCA) in order to provide the user with an easy to use, reliable and highly accurate method.

We are experts in the sampling and analysis of sulfur compounds including SO2 and Total Reduced Sulfur (TRS) according to EPA 15 and 16B, ASTM D-5504, and SCAQMD 307-91. We can provide specialty inert sampling canisters that are designed to improve the stability of sulfur compounds. We have low-level (~5 ppbV) and high-level (> 20 ppbV) instruments available for the analysis of a wide range of samples from different source tests.

AAC has recently developed a source testing method for ammonia and speciated amines using derivatization followed by HPLC analysis.

Please see our Analytical Capabilities document for more details of what source testing services we offer.

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

We have a long history of Research and Development and are experts at developing new methods as well as improving existing ones to meet client's needs. We are often asked to expand the analyte list of existing methods and are experts at testing and validating additional analytes. We are also able to modify current methods by changing solution chemistries, solution volumes, or sampling protocols to meet specific client needs. We can perform method validation tests including spiking, stability, reproducibility, and gas phase recovery studies.
